one of the best songs off of one of the best records of all time
nobunny - “ain’t it a shame”
i’ve been listening to this record nonstop lately. i saw them open for girls last year and i think i was the only person in the room that was into it. if you get the chance to check them out, GO! there is nothing quite like seeing a dude wearing a rabbit mask go wild in fishnets and a leather jacket.
not to discount their success in the least bit, but i feel like this marks the beginning of some bigger and better things for this band. they were one of the first indie bands i really got into, and i feel like they’ve sort of been stuck at the same level that they were at back then, a little more than 3 years ago. regardless, i am really excited to see where they will go from here.
work drugs - “blue steel”
some groovy new wave-influenced pop jams from philadelphia. check out their latest release aurora lies here. i have a feeling they’re going to be doing some big things this year.
summer twins - “i don’t care”
great indie pop band from california. LP is coming out on burger records this week!
lana del rey - “born to die”
since she started to grow in popularity, lana del rey has kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. but even though she is undeniably a “brand” or “product” or whatever you want to call it, her output is pretty fantastic. looking forward to this record, for sure.
I posted a recent Facebook comment regarding our policies with signing artists and found myself getting into a discussion of what the role of an independent label is in 2012, something I’ve often been asked about in interviews but have never really been able to elaborate on.
Basically…
check this out if you’d like some insight into why captured tracks is the best indie label going right now.
