been listening to this for the past 4 or 5 days, and after my initial disappointment, it began to grow on me. it’s much more of a departure from life of leisure than i was expecting, so perhaps my distaste was actually just confusion/disorientation. with this record, ernest greene takes on more the role of a musician as opposed to a producer like he played on the first two EPs, which is definitely cool. with his previous work, most notably the last EP, the samples are extremely blatant and are more often than not the centerpiece of the songs (“get up” “feel it all around” “hold out”), but here they are used much more conservatively. definitely digging it… let’s see what kind of staying power it’s got.
